 To,                                                                                                Dated -11-01-2009Dr. Dhirendra Singh,Secretary,U.P.O.A. Sub: Annual Report of Meerut Orthopaedic Club  Respected Sir,                       Meerut Orthopaedic Club wishes you a very Happy New Year 2008.  The strength of our club is swelling to beat any Club of U.P .With our excellent performance we got the best club award for the year 2007 and continued enthusiasm from our members puts us in position to claim for the best club award for the year 2008.    The annual report of our club is as under:

 All the members of our club have taken active interest in the activities and every meeting was attended by more than 80% members.  General Body Meetings-The meetings have been academic feasts with guest speakers of national fame and presentations from within the club. We are regularly holding interactive sessions and case discussions amongst our members.January- Renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. John Mukhopadhya from Patna delivered talk on “ Failures of Fracture Fixation and Recent Trends in Fracture Fixation”. The meeting was well attended and Dr. Mukopadhya applauded the club for successfully organizing regular academic activities. February-There was a talk on arthroscopic meniscal suturing by Dr. Anil Lokhande .The meeting was well attended. April- MOC held a panel discussion on pain management with Dr. A.S. Dube, Dr. Dhirendra Singh and Dr. Lokesh Maratha as panelists. May-Talk on ‘Effective conservative management of chronic low back pain’ was delivered by Prof. A.S. Dube. Elections for new executive of MOC were held with Prof. A.S.Dube as election officer. The elections were unanimous showing the unity and solidarity amongst our members and following executive was elected. President-Dr. Arun Vashisht, Vice Presidents-Dr. Ravi Bhagat & Dr. N.P. Sharma, Secretary-Dr. Arunim Swarup, Treasurer- Dr. Anand Jain, Joint Secretary-Dr. Ravinder Rana. Executive Members are Dr. Pradeep Rajput, Dr. Kamal Swarn, Dr. Ravi Prakash, Dr. Prashant Rastogi, Dr. R.P. Singhal, Dr. Ashwani Sain and Dr. S.K. Verma. June- MOC held families meet of all the members along with the installation ceremony of the new executive. There was a guest lecture on Investment and Banking for Doctors. July-Eminent Spine and Endoscopic Neurosurgeon Dr. Satnam Singh Chhabra, Vice Chairman, Department of Neurosurgery, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi Delivered talk on Endoscopic Spine Surgery and Management of Low Back Pain. The meeting was attended by over 60 Orthopaedic Surgeons of Meerut and Dr. Chabbra applauded the Club for the unity and synchronicity in the club. August- There was a talk on Acetabular Fractures-A rationale for treatment by Dr.Abhay Ehlence, Associate Professor, Department of Orthopaedics, Subharti Medical College, Meerut. There was a interactive Discussion session and the meeting was attended in full strength. December-The proposed December meet was postponed to January due to IOACON.There were talks on 1. Management of Spasticity by Dr. Arun Sharma, DM  Neurology2. Role of Botulinum Toxin in Cerebral Palsy by Dr. Ritesh Runu, Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopaedics, Subharti Medical College, Meerut.The meeting was also graced by the neurologists of Meerut and there was a great arousal of interest for team work in management of this complex problem. Prof. M.K.A.Sherwani, chairperson for the symposium, congratulated the Club for its efforts. CME ON LOW BACK PAIN-LUMBAR DISC DERANGEMENT FULL SPECTRUM The high prevalence and complexity of low back pain, coupled with gradually sliding away of this important specialty from orthopaedicians to other specialists prompted MOC to conduct a CME on this topic under UPOA on 31-05-08. It was attended by 150 delegates and guests from west UP, Uttarakhand and Delhi. The lectures on Biomechanics, Epidural injections, ozononucleolysis and minimally invasive disc surgeries were discussed in length by eminent speakers. The delegates found the CME very informative and were covered well by the media. Organizing Secretary was Dr. Lokesh Maratha.     UPOA PGICL    The UPOA PGICL was conducted by Dr. A.S.Dube at Subharti Medical College, Meerut from 7th-9th Nov.08. The program was inaugurated by President UPOA Prof. Vineet Sharma and Chief Guest was Prof. S.M.Tuli. It was a very useful and interactive program which includes almost all important topics in Orthopaedics and emphasis on clinical examination was the key. More than 60 postgraduate students from various Medical Colleges attended the course. Prof. A.S.Dube donate a cheque of Rs. 50,000/- to be used as corpus money for the club. Executive Meetings- A total of Six Executive meetings were held in last year. Emphasis was laid to decide means to raise the corpus money of the Club and plans were made to organize more workshops and live surgery sessions in the coming year. It was also proposed to encourage academic presentations from within the Club. The members of the Club participated in various national and international academic programs in the year 2008 and delivered lectures and presented papers in conferences.Dr.Lokesh Maratha, our past secretary, conducted workshops on JESS at Kathmandu and Uttaranchal Annual Conference. He delivered two guest lectures in IOACON 2008, and one in  Nailscon at Agra. Book on ‘Trauma Management by Joshi’s External Stabilization system’ co-authored by him was given the best book of the year award by Wiroc for year 2007-2008.Prof.A.S.Dube was awarded MNAMS Ortho by National Academy of Medical Sciences New Delhi. He participated as faculty in Delhi Orthopaedic Association Annual Conference and gave a lecture on Osteoporosis proximal humerus fractures. He also delivered a talk on Biomechanics of Lumbar Spine injury at Midterm UPOA Symposium, Bareilly  Our members have shown great enthusiasm in making MOC a strong platform for academic and social interaction amongst all the Orthopaedic surgeons in town and we are proud to present our club as a strong contender for the best club award for 2008. Thanking you,Yours Sincerely,   Dr.Arun Vashisht                                                          Dr. Arunim SwarupPresident                                                                       Secretary
